Day 4 - Asakusa
So today was pretty fun. I spent the entire day at Asakusa for the Sanja Matsuri. I have no idea what that translates to but it was sure a lot of fun. Getting there was a real pain though. Talk about having to rely on your Japanese, lol. I had to ask/talk to two separate people at the station so I could find my way, alongside my classmates. Sometimes they should just slow down their speech a bit so we
can understand them more clearly. After a good train and 18 stops later by two trains we finally got there.
As soon as we left the station there were thousands of people flooding the streets in celebration. It was amazing to see so many people -- it really reminded me of New Year's eve in New York. There were definitely a lot of shops around, and so many things to choose from. Clinton and I bought the headband things and looked like complete asses walking around. It's funny how many stares you'll get when you stand out.
The temples were cool, and huge. And the parade with people charging along with the mobile shrines on their shoulders was a sight to see. There must've been a half dozen or so coming by, and we were actually quite late to the festival.
The food, oh man, the food was the best. I had an Okonomiyaki & Takoyaki while I was there. Simply, fantastic. And I had other things too like this sugar covered strawberry & a Blue Hawaiian Ramune soda.
There were fishing games with the little paper net. I remember catching like 8 little fish in Ala Moana once so I paid the 300yen to try. I caught the two goldfish like nothing, so I decided to get the fatty on the side. Unfortunately the fatty was, well, heavy. So it broke the net and I was done. Later on I found a stand where
they had dozens of baby turtles in the tank! I was upset, yet wanted to play. I wanted to get all of them I could, but I knew I wouldn't be able to bring them back home. Oh well.
The temples were beautiful, and even more so at night. With the lights dimming, the temple lights turned on and lit the area. Inside I decided to get my fortune so I shook the metal box with the sticks inside, and pulled up a paper with my fortune on it. Well, unfortunately for me, I got: "#82: Bad Fortune". It spoke of fire and disaster, the ill not recovering, and all
this other BS. Damnit, that just sucked. So I put it on the thing that said "これで以外のお待ち下さい"
or something like that which basically meant put the thing here and please wait for a different fortune.
On the way home we were walking toward our train and actually started hearing music. There was a band playing above ground so we went to
take a look. There was an awesome Jazz trio playing and the sound was just incredible. The drummer especially, who took a solo toward the end and blew all of us away.
Joke of the day: We noticed there was a woman reading sheet music on the train. Bob said, "what is she, too poor to afford an ipod?"

Lol, thanks. And I didn't know it turns up as Japanese for you. That's funny. I thought it was just because I was looking at it from Japan, now that's odd. Well, yes I suppose I have been suffering from that for years. I miss you too. :)
